A flight to Liberia Costa Rica Airport will leave you just a short ride away from some of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches. Liberia airport is located only 13 Km west of the center of Liberia and the nearest beach is about 20 minutes away.

International flights to Liberia Costa Rica first began on December 1st, 2002. Since then its popularity as an alternative airport to San Jose's busy Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) has increased steadily. This year alone up to 45 scheduled commercial flights to Liberia Costa Rica are expected every week.

High Season - Yet more visitors in Costa Rica

240,000 tourists will visit Guanacaste and double expectations. In the previous season 86,000 tourists entered through Liberia and during the year before it have been 79,000. The high season has officially started on December 15th. From that point on, until the next April the airport Daniel Oduber, Liberia has to handle about 60 flights per week. The airport manager Analive Rosales says that Mondays and Saturdays are the days when the largest volume has to be handled and some land simultaneously. Visitors entering Liberia spend on average about $ 2,200 (nearly ¢ 1,100,000) in his stay in the country, while Visitors who arrive by other points, mainly the Juan Santamaria, spend an average of $ 1,300. To meet the increased influx of visitors to be fair,the government is planning a $ 15 million investment for the construction of a new airport terminal. Completion is scheduled for January 2009.
